Choose What the Map Shows
The Visibility panel at the bottom left of the web map controls everything you see.
Basemap
The dropdown at the top picks the background:
- USGS Topo — contour lines and place names
- Satellite — aerial imagery
- OpenMapTiles Terrain and USGS Shaded Relief — landform views
- LIDAR Hillshade — high-resolution terrain, on atlases that have it
- None — just the atlas's own layers on a blank background
Layers
Tick or untick a layer to show or hide it. Only rendered shortens the list to layers that actually have something visible in the current view.
Some layers only appear once you zoom in far enough.
Folding the panel away
Click the ▾ at the top of the panel to fold it down to a small ▸ button and get more map; click ▸ to bring it back. The right-hand panel folds away the same way.
These settings only affect the live web map — not printed or PDF maps. Your current basemap and layers are included when you share a view.
